The biggest news in my life over the past month is that I was invited by Emily Brink and the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship (CICW) to be part of a team that is going to the Reformed Ecumenical Council in Utrecht, Netherlands, during July.
This is an exciting opportunity for me, because it combines my interest in worship and global Christianity. I will be part of a team of students, faculty, and CICW people that will lead worship during the conference, host a few teaching sessions, and hopefully spend a lot of time learning from people there. The neat thing is that the REC is mostly NOT from North America or Europe – in fact, the Christian Reformed Church is the only denomination invited from the US. Almost all of the member denominations come from Africa, Asia, and other parts of the world.
And best of all – CICW picks up the tab! (Thanks, Lilly Endowment!)
There is a God-story behind this all – ask me sometime.
So basically, I know what I am doing for part of the summer. I’ll be in Utrecht from July 10-28. As for the rest of the summer, who knows? More on that soon.
